EDUCATION AND CULTURE

1. LINGGO NG KABATAAN AND KK ASSEMBLY (2020-2023)

In observance of R.A. 10742, the Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Rizal has been committed in conducting a series of activities to celebrate Linggo ng Kabataan and KK Assembly every month of August. This mandatory project aims to empower and involve the KK members in the barangay by keeping them updated with all programs and operations of the SK Council.

 

In 2020, various activities such as Rizal Got Idol, Digital Poster Making Contest and Spoken Poetry Contest were conducted. Despite the limitations set by the pandemic, these activities were able to reach and unleash the skills and talents of every youth in Barangay Rizal.

In 2021, virtual Battle of the Bands, Short Film Making Contest and Youth Empowerment Webinar became the highlight for the annual celebration. Motivational speaker Lyqa Maravilla shared life lessons to all youth participants.

 

The celebration became bigger when the SK Council of Barangay Rizal stepped out and conducted the annual project in Mansanas Covered Court for the first time in 2022. Games, raffles and other interactive activities were carried out during the event. First ever Tawag ng Tanghalan in Barangay Rizal concluded the celebration.

 

The SK Council 2018-2023 headed by SK Chairman Ariel “Acko” Gadiane conducted its last Linggo ng Kabataan and KK Assembly in August 2023 where 350 youth attendees participated in the said event. They continued and served a better project this year by having distribution of gift packs, t-shirts, school kits, bigger raffles and fun games all throughout the event.

They wrapped up the event by leaving an empowering message to the youth of Barangay Rizal using their theme: “Ako ay Kabataan, laan ay puso at lakas.”

2. Heroes Educational Cash Assistance Program (2022-2023)

This program was first launched in 2022 where 300 high achieving college students with a general weighted average of 1.20 – 1.30 received P1000.00 cash assistance. They submitted their requirements and were screened accordingly.

 

In 2023, the SK Council increased the amount of cash assistance from P1000.00 to P5000.00 in order to further provide and reward the high achieving students in Barangay Rizal.

3. Mr. and Ms. Rizal (2022-2023)

The first pageant after the pandemic was held through Ms. Rizal in 2022. This was participated by eight young candidates vying for the crown. They have undergone 5 stages in the pageant namely; Casual Wear, Swimwear, National Costume, Evening Gown, and Question and Answer portion and they were also presented different special awards from different sponsors and awarded the best in every activity made in the pageant.

 

In 2023, the pageant became bigger as it included gents in the competition. Hence, the beginning of Mr. and Ms. Rizal in Barangay Rizal. Eight young women and five young men flaunted their beauties and confidence. It showcased Filipino culture and traditions all throughout the competitions highlighted in the coronation night.

5. Halloween Madness and Zombie Land (2020-2022)

From 2020 to 2022, various activities and events were organized to bring a memorable Halloween experience to the youth of Barangay Rizal.

In 2020, a Halloween Make Up Transformation Contest was held and participated by 12 talented youth. Winners received plaque and cash prizes. Aside from this, 5000 candy loot bags for the kids were distributed in the community. 

 

Barangay Rizal turned into a land of zombies as the SK Council launched the Halloween Madness: Zombie Land in 2022. Twelve talented youth joined the parade and showcased their transformation in Mansanas Covered Court. Audience particularly the kids, also came with their own costumes. Winners for the said event received plaques and cash prizes. To end the Halloween celebration, 10,000 candy loot bags were distributed house to house.

4. Free Haircut for Students (2020-2023)

The SK Council for three consecutive years has invited 20 haircutters to accommodate 2-day free haircut services for the youth. It was open for young men and women in barangay especially for those who are financially challenged.
